Keeping Fit This Holiday Season
NO Stopping
For most of us December Holidays translates to partying, partying and more partying. But to the health and fitness conscious there is the dilemma on how to balance your normal workout routine with a busy holiday itinerary.
A vacation is supposed to be a break from your everyday life, but that doesn't mean you can allow yourself to be sloppy where your fitness goals are concerned. In fact, a vacation is a good time to get into the habit of getting enough exercise, as you have the leisure of choosing where to go and what to do.
One wise thing to do before you go is to research your destination. Most four or five star hotels have fitness centre and a swimming pool. The best bet is to take a few laps in the pool before breakfast or do at least 30 minutes of strength training in the gym. You should also check out a hotel’s facility rating online and research nearby outdoor activities, such as tennis courts, parks for walking and jogging and golf clubs.
What's a tropical destination without some sun, sand and sea? If your destination is the beach or a resort, you can stay ahead of the fitness game by taking 20-minute walks or runs on the beach. While at the coast, you can throw a beach ball, go snorkeling, diving, sailing or windsurfing. Some resorts might offer horseback riding, biking and trail hiking along the beach. The idea is to integrate at least 30 minutes of exercise four times a week, alternating between cardio and strength training activities. If you are heading to the mountainous central regions and the rift valley, hiking, biking and mountain climbing will do the trick for you. A great way to have fun while keeping fit at the same time. It's tempting to ditch your workouts as your days fill up with holiday preparations, parties and whatnot, but, now more than ever, you need to stay active. Exercise will help you deal with added stress and give you energy for everything you need to accomplish. Also, it'll help you avoid weight gain. If you have trouble sticking with your usual routine, now is a great time to come up with a new one. Forget the rules, lower your standards...do whatever you need to do to keep moving:
